ELEMENTARY: K-5TH GRADE
CURRICULUM: The Children's School's elementary program offers students a broad, deep and engaging education in which students master 21st century knowledge and skills through a rich, interdisciplinary curriculum. In keeping with the school's philosophy that children learn best when they are actively involved in their own learning, concepts and skills are introduced and reinforced using hands-on teaching strategies and through interdisciplinary projects that encourage collaboration and build understanding of connections between subjects.
SPECIALTY CLASSES: As students deepen their skills and knowledge in literacy and math, they also broaden their education through weekly and bi-weekly specialty classes in science, technology, Spanish, music, art and physical education. When possible, learning is tied into learning in the classroom.
INTEGRATED LEARNING: Opportunities for integrated learning abound in elementary school. Students engage in themed projects in each grade, developing their collaboration and critical thinking skills and allowing students to approach topics from multiple angles and disciplines.
As students advance through the grades, they relish the ability to take on greater school-wide roles and responsibilities. Older students act as mentors to younger students through "learning connections" programs. They also participate in the student body association, the Green Team, yearbook and on school sports teams.
Class sizes are intentionally small so that our teachers can work
with each child individually. As students develop intellectually,
teacher continue to support children's social growth and to encourage their development into compassionate and confident learners.
