Construction News
Drum roll, please...! The new front parking lot is open, the new elementary playground is being enjoyed by the students and the second phase of construction has begun. This terrific news is a direct result of our community's dedicated work and support. We all have good reason to be proud.
CONSTRUCTION PROJECT DETAILSThis construction project will include a number of exciting improvements to our campus:
- Four modular buildings for our Nelson Middle Years students
- A fifth, large new building that will house the elementary science classroom, a bigger and much improved Kids' Club space, and a digital music lab for elementary and NMY students
- A new front gateway to the school
- A new front parking lot with 30 parking spaces, new fencing and gates and beautiful new landscaping and lighting
- Fewer red curbs on Torrey Pines Lane to increase our street parking space and to provide space for designated student drop off areas for older students
- A new paved and landscaped back parking lot for faculty and staff with a secure access gate
In short, every family and community member of The Children's School will benefit from this project, and our campus will be safer and more attractive!
DROP-OFF AND PICK-UP INFORMATIONConstruction is planned in phases. The first phase will be to build the front parking lot:
- During this process, a portion of the elementary blacktop will be fenced in as a construction site.
- If your child is in first grade or older, we will ask that you drop your child off at the curb by the front gate of the school and turn around in the cul de sac to exit. Families of Kindergarteners may drop off as well. Members of the administration and specialty teachers will be staffing the front gate and will make sure the children get safely to their classrooms.
- If you have both older and younger children, you may choose to drop off your younger child with your older child at the drop-off area, or you may park and bring them in together.
- Our primary safety concerns will be with traffic. Please be sure to drive carefully and slowly during our work and drop your child off only in the designated drop off areas where TCS staff members will be stationed to ensure safety.
As this phase is nearing completion, the school will update the drop off and pick up plan for the second phase of construction, which will include grading the area and bringing in the modular buildings.
